Gbenga Ariyibi Ado Ekiti
THE Minister of Police Affairs, Navy Capt. Caleb Olubolade(rtd) ,has attributed the little delay in the declaration of the state of emergency in the three states of Yobe, Adamawa and Borno by the president,Dr Goodluck Jonathan, saying people should not attribute the action of the president as a sign of weakness
According to the minister ,the action of the president was targeted at keeping the unity of the nation, which he said was being threatened by the activities of the terror group, Boko Haram.
Speaking at Ipoti Ekiti yesterday while presenting  a brand new Toyota Sienna
bus to members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Correspondents’
Chapel, Olubolade stated that the declaration of the state of emergency in the three states of Northern Nigeria was now yielding positive development
According to him, Mr president decided to tarry a bit in taken any hash measure against members of Boko Haram under a strong believe that the group would soon have a change of heart
“Security is what keep Nigeria together up to this date, so it should not be politicized. The issue of security is paramount to President Jonathan and this prompted him to declare emergency in the three states. You can even see he did not rush into declaring emergency because he thought this sect could have a change of heart”.
“Nothing will be spared by this administration to ensure that Nigeria stand united. It is the responsibility of the government to ensure unity and security of
lives, so that was what Mr President intended to achieve by the Emergency.
“He wanted to keep Nigeria as one the way he met it. Aside development, the first responsibility of any government is unity and by the grace of God, Mr President will do everything to ensure that the coming government inherits a united Nigeria from him”.
Olubolade admonished journalists to always be objective and positive in their reportage of any issue that bothers on national security.
He equally  urged critics of the Jonathan administration to be positive in their attacks, saying building a new Nigeria that would be a pride of all remains the responsibilities of all the citizens.
