Technically Defeated Boko Haram Holds Eid-ul-Fitr Prayers ‘Somewhere Along the Nigeria-Cameroon Border

Two gun-wielding men of technically defeated boko haram stand in front of the group, keeping watch as others pray. On the rear and on the sides of the group were other watchmen, some holding guns, others hoisting insurgent flags. Roughly estimated, the men in the video were in their hundreds.

Boko Haram insurgents celebrated the Eid-ul-Fitr with special prayers believed to have held somewhere around the Nigeria-Cameroon border, a new video by the Abubakar Shekau-led faction of the group has revealed.

In the video obtained by SaharaReporters, members of the group can be seen trooping onto the praying field, located in an area with thick vegetation, suggesting it might have been a forest zone.

Ahmad Salkida, the Nigerian journalist with the deepest knowledge of Boko Haram's operations, says the prayer must have held at "an open field, apparently between the Nigeria-Cameroon border".

Despite repeated claims by the government that Boko Haram had been defeated, the sect continues to wreak havoc on civilians.

On Saturday night, it killed more than 30 people and injured more than 50 in a bomb blast in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State.

5 Governors, 28 Senators Join Forces with NewPDP to Dump APC

Aggrieved members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who constitute the newPDP bloc in the ruling party appear set to re-enact their pre-2015 election feat that led to the destabilization and eventual defeat of the then ruling party, PDP.

This time however, the APC may be the loser.

Leaders of the nPDP bloc will soon lead hundreds of their followers and supporters out of the ruling party back to the PDP at the “injury time.” Beside Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki and House of Reps Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, Daily Sun gathered that five serving APC governors, 28 Senators and 70 members of the green chamber of the National Assembly have joined forces with the nPDP bloc to move en masse from the APC in a matter of weeks.

Reliable sources within the group told Daily Sun in Abuja on Friday that two of the serving governors are from North Central, another two from North East and one from North West (Their names withheld by us). It was further learnt that talks are still on to get at least three more APC governors to bring the total number to eight.

The calculation within the group, it was also gathered, is to move into PDP and have at least equal number of state governors with the APC, if not more ahead of the 2019 polls. By the arrangement, the bloc will also give PDP the majority in both chambers of the National Assembly.

Two dates have already been set for the mass defection. The first is immediately after the APC national convention at the end of this month. The party had in May scheduled the convention for Saturday, June 23.

A statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi also added that “inauguration of new party executives will subsequently hold on Monday, June 25, 2018”.

The party has had difficulty picking a date for its convention with the exercise having being postponed about five times in one year. Before now, the party had reportedly settled for June 2 for its national convention but some stakeholders were said to have pushed for the new date.

If the mass defection fails after June 25, leaders of the bloc alongside their supporters will announce their decision towards the end of July, when lawmakers will embark on their annual break.

Meetings scheduled for Mecca
To perfect some of these arrangements, Daily Sun gathered that the ongoing lesser hajj in Mecca, Saudi Arabia has provided a great opportunity for the coalescing political forces to hold meetings far away from preying eyes in Nigeria. It was gathered authoritatively that most of the meetings will hold at different venues between Monday June 4th and Wednesday, June 6th in Mecca.

It was also learnt that the annual Islamic prayer event will equally give pro-Buhari forces the time to plan their counter offensive. While confirming the meetings in Mecca, a top leader of nPDP told Daily Sun on Friday that “the lesser hajj this year has turned to a perfect opportunity for various groups to consolidate political meetings because the President is not the Buhari we voted for. All is not well at all.”

Legal tangle
Part of the political machinations against the control of power by APC in 2019, Daily Sun learnt is the barrage of cases already filed against the ruling party in various courts across the country.

As at yesterday, it was gathered, the party’s national legal adviser, Dr Muiz Banire, SAN is contending with 17 suits, all of which are challenging the outcome of the recently held party congresses across the states.

Obasanjo Raises Alarm: Buhari Planning To Arrest Me... I'm Waiting

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has accused incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari of planning to frame him up for possible arrest, for speaking out against Buhari's "poor governance".

Obasanjo made the allegation on Friday in a statement signed by his media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi.

The former president said his name was on the Watch List of Buhari’s administration.

Obasanjo said the security of his life cannot be guaranteed with the government’s latest move against him.

Obasanjo said since his State-of-the-Nation Special Statement on January 23, 2018, “the Federal Government had embarked on desperate efforts to frustrate, intimidate and blackmail him into abandoning what he termed ‘divine mandate to protect the rights of the people to better life and living'."

Recall that Buhari recently accused Obasanjo of frittering away $16 billion on phoney electricity projects. Obasanjo dismissed the claim saying the president was ignorant.

READ OBASANJO'S STATEMENT BELOW:
“Since Chief Olusegun Obasanjo declared in his State-of-the-Nation Special Statement on January 23, 2018, the desperation to frustrate, intimidate and blackmail him into abandoning his divine mandate to protect the rights of the people to better life and living continued unabated and has even taken a bizarre dimension.

“Impeccable security sources have alleged Chief Obasanjo’s name is on their Watch List and that the security of his life cannot be guaranteed.

“According to these informants, many of who are in the top echelon of the Nation’s security management and close to the corridors of power, the operatives are daily perfecting how to curtail the personal liberties of the former President and hang a crime on him.

“Ordinarily, we would not have dignified these reports with a response but for the fact that many of these informants are not known for flippant and frivolous talks. Secondly, this Government has demonstrably exhibited apathy, and in some cases, encouraged by its conduct, daily loss of lives and property in many States of the country, the office cannot be indifferent.

“We are currently in a nation where the Number Three citizen is currently being harangued and the Number Four citizen is facing similar threat within the same Government they serve. There is a groundswell of our nationals that live in fear that they could be hounded, harassed, maimed or even killed as the battle for 2019 takes this worrisome dimension.

“For Chief Obasanjo, this is a joke carried too far and being someone who do not act on unofficial information, he had cautioned all informants and adopted a wait-and-see attitude to the bestial propositions allegedly being contemplated to cow, cage and embarrass him.

“The content of the alleged beastly designs, it was learnt are two-fold for now. One, to seize his International Passport and clamp him into detention indefinitely, in order to prevent him from further expressing angst on the pervasive mediocrity in the quality of governance, economic management and in the protection of lives and property by the Government.

"But, since that could expose the Government to a swath of international condemnation, embarrassment and outrage, it is said that another plot being hatched is to cause the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to re-open investigation into the activities of Chief Obasanjo’s administration using false witnesses and documents. This will be a re- enactment of the Abacha era in which Chief Obasanjo was one of the principal victims."
